6/ * Alaska, by James Michener - again tickled my "this story is so vast, it has to be told from different points of view", and ALSO made me fall in love with a camera just watching the landscape develop. I stole Michener's geologic scene for my 2nd novel.

Agree with all of them except MacLeod. Never could get far with his stuff. Need to go back and try again. I’d put Ian Banks higher up, probably. And I’d include PK Dick because much of his body of work demonstrates that great ideas can overcome a writer’s failings.

What is your top recommendation from the last 10 years? I’ve been out of the fiction loop for quite a while, but since I signed up for Audible I’ve jumped back in. My tendency is books/authors I loved in the past - Gene Wolfe, Philip Jose Farmer, etc. I need something fresh.

I hear Travis Corchran is pretty good...
