I'm sure there's some govt issues, but man, is a difficult life. I drove in 89 to finish college. Trucks are much, MUCH nicer. Infrastructure is better, and hey internet! Still sucks being out 3 weeks. Add the coming of autonomous? Whole thing doesn't sound like a good choice.

I mean this is mostly true but there can be issues because training isn't instantaneous and the actual infrastructure necessary to expand your training programs doesn't appear magically. So there can be temporary "shortages" for any profession that requires any trained skill.

It's such a dumb profession to have a shortage of though because the difference of pay they'd need is a few cents per mile to get people to stay in and a slight improvement in the treatment.

...or the skills required. This is the case among the US airlines with regards to pilot hiring, presently. And it’s been exacerbated by onerous government involvement and over-regulation with regard to pilot hiring minimums. Experience is expensive.

Also due to demand overseas, esp. in the Gulf area, and the desirability of US pilots there.
