You know who could REALLY go off about how bad at parenting Baby Boomers were? Gen X. Whole generation still traumatized.pic.twitter.com/ydUIMZqs2i

Oh those Silent Generation fathers... mine too. Didn’t say “I love you” until we were adults.

My mother thought that being consistently inconsistent was a legit form of parenting. Things that were OK for me to do one day, were not the next day. I'm very aware of where all my anxiety and panic attacks come from.

Same. My curfew changed depending on who I was with and why; sometimes I got in trouble for picking on my sis, other times it was "just kid stuff", I could go on and on and on. It was so WTF...

My mum told me that in the '70s, the popular wisdom was that kids would find their own way, and parents could mess that up by interfering, so keep your kids at a distance and don't get involved with their lives. Yes it sucked

There were BEST SELLING parenting books based on this. My dad had a copy of one. Basically treat your kids like mini-adults, so they will grow into adulthood.
