...starting with this one . Led by Adam Morris & of the , it offers, among other things, a beautifully written, crystal clear articulation of some core concepts, methods & current debates in the computational RL literature.

Cool paper I ran across last night (you can tell when I'm doing lit review for my own papers). There's a weird surface disconnect between the 'intuitive cooperation' lit. and aggression lit that says its automatic/reactive-

Veil-of-ignorance reasoning favors the greater good ft. "These studies indicate that veil-of-ignorance reasoning may be used to promote decision making that is more impartial and socially beneficial."

Our new work on AI ethics in situations where humans and machines share joint control is now out in Nature Human Behavior. Some implications for deploying human-in-the-loop and machine-in-the-loop systems in the real world. Great work led by and !

What do conservatives know that liberals don’t? What do liberals know that conservatives don’t? Can you write multiple choice questions that reveal who knows what? Enter the Greene Lab’s contest and earn $100 for each good question you can write!

This is one of the coolest papers I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of -- it's super fun and (I think) also gets at something really important. Would love to hear your thoughts on our proposal!

Check out the full paper for some of the interesting extensions and consequences of these ideas. (For instance: If you ask a person what dinner they’d least like to eat tonight, they can’t help think first of the things they’d actually like the most!) 5/5

Drawing on RL methods, we define a two-stage architecture where model-free value generates a tractable set of options to choose from, and model-based value selects among these. Our modeling shows why it works, and our experiments show that people use it. 4/5

Fortunately you don’t have to. Somehow, the mind unconsciously generates a tractable “choice set”—a small set of options for you to choose between. How do we do this so quickly and efficiently? And how is it different from conscious, deliberative choice? 3/5

Most decision-making studies ask people to choose between just two things—say, coffee or tea. But in the real world there are often a vast number of options for us to choose between. Imagine all the beverages within a mile of you—you couldn’t possibly consider them all. 2/5

It turns out that what comes to mind is a combination of what is “probable” and what is “ideal” — and in a really interesting way. Specifically, these properties *interact*: We aren’t biased by probability and value independently, but jointly.

Other kinds of vacations are more “ideal”, or valuable, than others. E.g., I’d rather vacation in Mauritius than Cape Cod (even though it’s more probable that I’ll actually vacation on the Cape).
