I personally think one main cause is the secular outlook many have today. An outlook which one takes that there is no beyond the material (no God/s) will undoubtedly lead to an individual viewing themselves as well as humanity all alone, adrift.

This is flawed however (in my pov) as in the past people could not socialise to the extent we do or certainly not in the same way that we do. Certainly situational circumstances play a part for some, but for many they socialise incredible amounts and still feel this loneliness.

No real cause for loneliness is provided, at least not an underlying one. The causes given are usually in the form of situational ones, e.g. this person does this work therefore they cannot socialise lots.

It's interesting how not once anything spiritual or religious is mentioned or recommended. Now ofc they won't do this being secular, but it is interesting to note.

If you didn't think Loneliness was already a big problem enough, we in the UK have a 'Minister for Loneliness'. The level of loneliness in the modern world is so extreme that we have a high level government official who's job it is to tackle this problem via projects & more.
