Ha! I usually describe myself as specializing in "Chinese law and politics" - you can't really analyze the former without the latter in China. Plus, corresponds with 政法, which is how the Party itself situates law in the bureaucratic system.
That's a really interesting point and linguistic distinction that I've never heard made before. 政治 =/= 政法 =/= 法律 Muchas gracias
