"Short Elon" is to the fintwit community as "Trump is a cheeto/clown" is to liberals. It's stupid, but a great way to get likes and retweets. Let me explain why shorting @elonmusk is a bad call.
Shorting has limited upside (price of the stock), with massive downside (infinity). This is a recipe for disaster. The reason why, you can't short Elon is that he will ALWAYS be able to raise capital, never mind the fact that he delivered on Paypal, SpaceX, and early Tesla.

Many of his employees would work for free for months. I saw this event live. It was incredible not just for the accomplishment, but for the level of commitment in his people. He has near-god status. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANv5UfZsvZQ …

The flamethrowers, hats, and other flights of fancy that the "shorters" see as evidence of cocaine-addled erratic-ness are also demonstrative of how easy it is for him to raise capital. Whether its deposits from customers or a gofundme page, Elon can ALWAYS get more money.

There are a lot of Trump parallels here. People view his actions in too parochially and in many ways Elon is a spit in the face of any investor because he does things and investors don't.

Suppose there's only a 10% chance I'm right. The expected value of shorting Elon is 90%*Tesla Stock Price + 10%*Negative Infinity. Never mind the fact that even if I'm wrong, you still need to time it right. Good luck.
