Yeah, but how do you buy the apartment with dirty money? Usually dirty money that needs to be laundered is cash. You cannot buy a 10 million dollar apartment with multiple briefcases of 100s. If you split the transaction up in lots of pieces, you need many entities. Not easy.

To your point @lib_crusher I can see how you can make illegal and improper payments by overpaying for apartments, but that is very different from laundering money. For example, you want to buy a politician? Overpay for his house. But this is not same as laundering money!
