Proper period + quotation mark usage is totally counter intuitive and should be reformed. This should be "right". Whereas this should be "wrong."

#1 is British usage, I believe. As a Canadian, I reserve the right to pick & choose between British & American conventions & to declare my preferences "the only authentically Canadian style".
