That's a great point. I feel like this is true in part because, at the time, we expected those photos to exist forever. Now that we do not, we save them differently. Good predictions are rare, but I've been using the cloud as a photo repository for years and expect to continue.
Did free trade the least? I thought the baltic states were pretty pro-capitalist, no? Estonia is like this weird startup paragon no?

Yes yes, let me try again :) Baltic states did most free trade (least protectionism), so they grew quickly first but suffered the most later (took large risks). They had no local industries, and a quarter of their population emigrated.

You should read John Gray's False Dawn if you haven't. His idea was (in 1998!) that global free market is a Utopian project (like global communism) and will disintegrate accordingly after much shitshow.
