AI Zen: think about the difference between the two: 1) I look at a lot of charts and figures and then make a decision based on gut feeling. 2) I train a neural network using large data sets to and make decisions based on its predictions.
From what I know, they model visual functions well, but not through visual means. It's all converted to numbers...if that makes sense.

Well yes, but isn't it what your brain is doing anyway? The receptors in your eyes convert photons to electric charges (can be modeled as numbers) and your brain cells transform them.

Yeah but with a visual intermediary step that AI doesn't use. I'm getting this distinction from a video where the people of openai describe how they built a video game bot. They were careful to say that it doesn't look at the screen like humans do.
