      fees are designed to go up as coin creation slows down, plus fees will be counter cyclical

      I don't get it. I don't know what you mean by counter cyclical and as I understand it fees should go down as coin creation slows down.

          because miners need to make money so if they mine less they will charge more, and if they are holding bitcoin they need to make up for loss

          They get less BTC, but shouldn't the value of BTC also rise in USD, negating or exceeding the effect of receiving less BTC?
