I'm guessing that many of the people who are kneeling for national anthem have never lived overseas. No better way to become patriotic.

Out of curiosity, have you lived abroad? And where?
I have! I probably have lived about 1.5 years in China. Never longer than 6 months at a time. I sincerely and euphemistically learned a lot.

E.g. moving from USA to Germany might lead to the opposite effect if you're egalitarian.
