Does anyone have any insights as to what a white noise machine does to your sleep quality? I'm reading that you get "deeper sleep" but less REM sleep, which doesn't sound good.

Fwiw, I cut the white noise machine and got less sleep as a result (woken up earlier and more often), but felt smarter (perhaps indicative of increased REM sleep). I also set a personal record for my chess blitz rating in the wake of its removal.
