I was 12. I joined my parents on a business trip. I started acting up. My dad said, “Will you stop being such a little kid?” My mom said to him, “You know, he is a kid.” I think about that often — especially when I find myself expecting my kids to act like small adults.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if the optimal set up is good-cop bad-cop for parenting, but I'm talking out of my ass. ask me in 20-30 years.

Haha, I remember when I figured that out. "Molson, I am never speaking to you again." (30 minutes later) "What do you want for dinner?" "Mom, I thought you told me you were never speaking to me again?" "Yeah, but...what do you want fish?" My dad on the other hand was tougher.
