You don't want to close economy? Fine. But requiring masks is such an obvious move. They'll need to enforce this strictly to get compliance. The idea that it's a hoax, depending on the community, is widely held.

At this point, why would Abbott do anything? It looks like a capitulation, which is what he doesn't want - I assume municipal gov'ts have already required them? I don't see FL Gov DeSantis mandating masks, because most of the major cities and counties already require them

Mandating masks is the most effective least painless thing you can do. Municipal gov'ts HAVE NOT in Texas, for the most part.
