Yes and no. AFAICT there have only been protests and riots in Hong Kong like this when the PRC has tried to impose laws that are antithetical to the Hong Kong constitution. Yes, the riots were crazy and senseless, but there are solutions to that don't break the '97 deal.

I am no legal expert. All I can say is, "one nation two systems" means HK cannot become a base to overthrow PRC. The word "Nation" is placed before "systems". Today I saw so mauch cheering from mainland Chinese and Hkers alike for NSL.

This law contradicts "one nation two systems". The idea that HK could overthrow PRC is ridiculous. Not even the United States could do it. A tiny island of a few million? Absurd. Who is cheering for what is not relevant.

Of course it is relevant. Thus is what Beijing had to deal with "the anger from mainland Chinese towards HK riots". NSL is the answer to useless HK Government. You think Beijing does not care opinion from the Chinese and care how western countries think?

Maybe this is western thinking, but to me: A deal is a deal. China made a deal with the British. They broke the deal. Period. There were other ways to solve the riots, as I already said.

Agree. But in politics, a deal is never binding. USA withdrew from Paris treaty, missile treaty, WHO, international Court for war crime. Yes different but President Bush pledged once "read my lips, no new tax".

"Two wrongs don't make a right." Yes, the USA has broken many deals and should be condemned for that, but that doesn't change the need to condemn what the PRC is doing now. They broke the contract, AFAICT.
