One of the most interesting Supreme Court cases I have ever encountered. The United States signs a treaty with the Lakota/Sioux tribes agreeing not to encroach upon their land. The United States loses the lawsuit and the Supreme Court awards the Lakota $106 in 1980 dollars. The Lakota refuse the money, which they feel would legitimize the land seizure, so the money sits in an interest account with the Bureau of Indian of Affairs, now worth $1 billion.
