There is a political heuristic that in my (brief, scant) lifetime never failed: when a prominent individual "in one tribe" supports a policy "on the other side" the odds of that policy being "not terrible at all" (sometimes even decent for the people, imagine) increase massively.

Most recent american example is the covid relief bill which got a staggering 97-0 in the senate.

I think this is a bad heuristic. Iraq was, patriot act, and the cares act are all examples to my mind in support of my claim.

hm patriot act is a good counterexample, will have to rethink it. Cares act though is good as passed, why do you think it is terrible?

well it was horrible to create situations where people fired get more money than people still working etc; but in aggregate it was quick, huge, and targeted to normal people, and very helpful vs doing nothing

Feel you on that. Still think it could’ve been better. Less focus on money, more focus on employment and medical testing etc.
