Vietnam, a low income Frontier economy that beat #coronavirus. 1 reason it was able to act so quickly is that [it] experienced SARS in 2003 and human cases of avian flu between 2004 and 2010. Therefore, Vietnam had both the experience and infrastructure to take appropriate actionhttps://twitter.com/MaxCRoser/status/1278057714950815744 …

Not convinced Vietnamese success is due to govt intervention. Laos and Cambodia too seem to have beaten the virus with no deaths. This suggests there are regional factors at play. Thailand and Myanmar too have done relative well and so has Chinese provinces bordering Vietnam

Harder to trust the Laotian and Cambodian data but this seems real. I think the answer is Asian culture, or more specifically a characteristic of western culture that causes these big discrepancies.

If it has anything 'Asian' about it then how does one explain the higher numbers in the Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia etc. Or even South Asia where numbers are still growing. The only cultural explanation is the historical propensity to wear masks in North East Asia

Maybe I'd add that Asians are better at social distancing as well. Seems truer the closer to get to NE Asia.
