Does YC’s brand hurt it? I think you attract better on average founders when your brand is less prestiged and more counter-culture. Also, YC invested in Stripe but the Collisons did not do the YC curriculum. I suspect this is true for many of their more famous investments.

There are some interesting people, and some interesting stuff turns up. But the brigading and thought-policing is pretty bad and has gotten progressively worse, and after awhile you realize it's all the same people beating the same dead hobby horses in a giant circlejerk

Sounds a lot like twitter, with the exception that this site is less well-policed. You can exist in certain areas without getting kicked in the ass by "mods".
