How many remember Operation Dragonfire in early 90's? Thomas Fok, son of Hong Kong billionaire Henry Fok, was arrested in NY for trying to smuggling 15000 AK47 into US. He served only 6 months jail time though.https://twitter.com/BenKTallmadge/status/1277244586918739969 …

What’s going on here? Huge demand in USA for guns which China makes cheaper (and better) but not legally so there is smuggling?

You mean back in the 90's? They probably didn't plan to sell to the regular distribution channels.

Was thinking about the current ups capture. Hong Kong gangs seemed much tougher back then. The only Chinese mafia we have in the us today is alibaba haha

Triads have mostly moved on to white collar type crimes. I’m interested in wether or not these parts were illegal lower receivers (the part that’s legally the “gun”), maybe modified to be full auto? Whoever bought these, should have just invested in some sweet 3D printers.

Good idea. They may be taking screenshot of your tweet for future references now.

3-d printing is really slow and expensive. China mass production beats it every time. Caveat: this is true for plastic. I don't know 3-d printing metal that well, but a lot of these gun parts are actually made from high durability plastic.

True, but one is illegal and the other (for now) is not. In re: 3D printed lower receivers, apparently they’ve come a long way in terms of durability (like 000s of rounds and still ok).
