Nah, never - my wife isn't the hugest fan of abstract strategy. It's more my vibe. I do like Go though.

I understand. I only have one friend who likes those abstract strategy games and he is also way better than me at chess. I beat him sometimes with creativity, but over the long term he wins. He will play me in other games sometimes for variety but prefers chess.

I like variety, so that is likely why I am not as good at chess, whether lack of practice, or an inclination for variety and options over mostly logic. There are many decisions in chess, but it is mostly logic, Go is much more fluid. Both games are ultimately logical.
