May I suggest “weak network effects” is a better description? Installed base of the apps and communal knowledge are two that are network effects. Just not strong in the Facebook/EBay sense of the word.

This is a no suggestion stream, Sir. I agree. Weak network effects is a better description. Not to be confused with “stickiness” I.e. people knowing how to use zoom while still being uncertain about how to use, say, google meet. This is knowledge, not communal knowledge.

What about it has become the "standard" video conferencing platform? When 80% of your contacts use zoom, does that matter how much you hate it?

I find it hard to see people paying for it long term when Microsoft is giving away Teams with Office 365

I use it regularly but don't get what's so special. Indifferent between zoom and Google Meet. Think this goes to show how important a name is, and brand marketing. Zoom is catchy.

Yeah, I bought a little bit of stock when it crashed on Google Meet being free, but sold a couple of weeks ago. I think it’s the best video chat software, but I don’t really know that this will ever be a one big winner market.
