As my grandpappy used to say: "Expect the worst and you'll never be disappointed." It's funny because he was the most positive human being I've ever met!
It's causal! When you expect the worst, it paradoxically makes you much happier :)

As I think more about it -- I don't get high-high's any more nor low-lows. Not like I did when I was younger. I guess the inversion of this saying is true. I don't expect great things either so I'm never unhappy nor happy.
