Capitalism will not save the environment. The climate crisis is a tragedy of the commons and can only be combated politically

Maybe. Capitalism creates a strong economic incentive for people to invent a solution.

Why do you think that? It seems there is a ton of evidence that it doesn't. Nobody cleaned up urban rivers, for more than a century, until laws were passed because it was so cheap to dump waste into them even though others suffered for it

Because there are indications that it might be true. For example, solar power is grossly inefficient when compared to fossil fuels, but we invest in it. Tesla electric vehicles are another example. While there are/were subsidies from government, there is demand without them.

When you say indications, do you mean evidence? Because it does not seem like the increased use of solar power or electric cars has noticeably slowed down global carbon emissions

Hey dude, you're just wrong. You cannot tell me that there is ZERO chance something that solves climate change will be invented. If you don't see how demand for inferior to fossil fuel solar power and electric cars are evidence for that, then you'll never get it.

That took a harsh turn. Of course there is a chance. I hear Jerry saying it is much more likely we will need a political solution and that the market alone is unlikely to solve the problem. Externalities make it hard for private actors to profit from the benefit they create.
