Because there are indications that it might be true. For example, solar power is grossly inefficient when compared to fossil fuels, but we invest in it. Tesla electric vehicles are another example. While there are/were subsidies from government, there is demand without them.

When you say indications, do you mean evidence? Because it does not seem like the increased use of solar power or electric cars has noticeably slowed down global carbon emissions

@ganeumann Are you defining ‘has[n’t] noticeably slowed down’ relative to a counterfactual or relative to trend rate you would like to see? Neither easy to discuss but would argue fmr is more relevant. On that basis, look at coal consumption in the UK, for example. Huge change! - 6 more replies
