I am curious if game outlets that diversify to try to expand their reach actually make any money out of that or if they turn off their original audience and lose ground
My feeling is that: 1. Sex sells 2. People talk more about diversity than they actually care. Watch what people do, not what they say.

Increasing diversity increases your bottom line in almost every case from branding, to video games, to movies.
