I’ve worked with a bunch of reporters and journalists. Many (not all) are happy to lie, mislead, or throw you under the bus to appease their editors or rack up clicks/listens/views. This is par for the course and you must be careful when working with them.

When accompanying a Swiss journo team for one afternoon in Korea, I was pretty shocked that all their “questions” were suggestive & designed to get certain answers from the locals.
