Maybe this helps someone? Over the last 18 months, I’ve watched my health indicators all move in the wrong direction. - Resting heart rate increased from 65 to 80 - VO2 Max from 45 to 37 - Heart rate variability from 38 to 32pic.twitter.com/ZDbyNjnyYm

I stopped drinking, I cut salt, I added cardio. Nothing made more than a minor difference. My doctor had put me on a diuretic to improve blood pressure, which didn’t help. So I went to UCSF cardiology and did a full battery of tests. Only learning was I have genetically high BP

Two weeks ago I was switched from a diuretic to a light ACE inhibitor for blood pressure - blood pressure from 130s/90s to 100s/60s - resting heart rate from from 80 to 64 - HRV up to 60ms And my weightlifting stamina doubled. Thanks Dr Long at UCSF, and @rabois for all helppic.twitter.com/xsRIZokC8D

You shouldn't be taking drugs to fix the data. Diet and exercise are sufficient and long run better fo ryou.

They clearly were not. I spent a year optimizing the hell out of both. My grandma is 92 and been on blood pressure meds for 50 yrs. My uncle too. My grandpa died at 55 from a heart attack and had tachycardia his whole life.

Depends on what you're eating. If all you're doing is optimizing the current en vogue diet recommended by doctors (which is basically high carbohydrate) you'll get nowhere. This isn't some flippant opinion of mine. I've researched this thoughtfully.

I have made more diet adjustments than I could name. Tracked a month with a CGM. Sometimes it’s just genetics 🧬 (And even if it was a food thing, I’d rather take a tiny pill for 60 yrs than be vegan or cut pasta)

What did you do? Did you try high fat/low carb? It shoots up your cholesterol but if my vitals are any indication, it lowers blood pressure. Mine is super low. Veganism is not healthy. If you're crushing pasta, that can mess up your heart.

I never went vegan, my normal diet is high fat / low carb. Lots of veggies and fruits, lean meats but also (grass fed) red meat and butter. Keep my omega 3 ratio at around 1:3. I did the “stuff” you’re advocating

What you’re describing besides the butter is not high fat low carb.

I have very little processed flour in my diet. The carbs in my diet are mostly vegetables. re:fats I usually eat 2 avocados a day, I supplement omega 3, and don’t hold back on butter, olive oil or cod oil. I’d say I’m more high-protein / low processed ingredients

I don’t have a horse in this fight. I’m not selling a keto course or something. Low-processed sounds good. I don’t know about high protein (as in I really don’t know). If I were you I’d fiddle around with diet more. God only knows what that pill will do. You are not your grandma.
