The Wikipedia article on toothpaste was surprisingly interesting. The two main active ingredients are 1) fluoride (also present in our drinking water) and 2) abrasives (i.e. baking soda aka sodium carbonate) - the latter is supposed to polish your teeth the same way jewelry is.

THERE IS NO NEED FOR TOOTHPASTE TO MAKE ORANGE JUICE TASTE BAD!!! THEY ADD A SURFACTANT, EVEN THOUGH IT HAS NO REAL USE, BECAUSE PEOPLE EXPECT A FOAMY MOUTH. AND IT IS THIS SURFACTANT THAT MAKES OJ TASTE BAD!!! BIG TOOTHPASTE- END THE CHARADE!!!
