      Is anyone aware of a non-western software company (for example, Xero and Atlassian which are NZ and Australian firms don't count) that is killing it in the United States?

      Barriers: 1) globalizing language in software is expensive and difficult. Even w/ ai translation progress. So its a built in barrier to globalized software. 2) US consumer UX standards are very high (see: any European website). Creative also is hard to translate and bourgie.

      To understand 1 and 2, just look how hard a time Netflix has had making global content that works in Asia. Art and language are real taste barriers. 3) Elegant coding still requires art > rules. We are another generation away from both tech tools and Chinese youth getting there.

      4) India has a significant language advantage over China. Still struggling after 25 yrs of trying. Their best talent just comes here. 5) Financing, I imagine? Not sure the Chinese investor class can compete with tech experience of US.

      Pt 4 was confusing. What i meant is India has the comparative advantage. If anyone in Asia is going to disrupt Western tech, its probably them. Tik Tok is a social network - which is meaningfully different. Network/content > UX and function.

      So far India has really underwhelmed. There are many more Eastern European, Israeli, and Chinese success stories (see replies) than Indian. India should have an advantage but it’s just not happening outside of BPO.

          Re financing. A lot of software is cheap to finance. So not sure how important that is. If you need money you’re one flight from SF away from getting more than you need.
