For the record: I think college is poorly implemented and needs to be worked on. But it’s the best we have.

I didn't go to most classes, either. I'd try the first lecture, and decided for most not melt my brain. Unfortunately, I listened to the efficient market theory, or I'd have got into the market way sooner. My dad even wanted to back me, before he went broke.
The way efficient market theory was taught at my school was much more thoughtful. They presented it, but then after explaining it they went through the academic counter-evidence which is quite strong. Dotted line is NPV of future dividends. Solid line is stock prices. Economics might have taken itself a lot more seriously over time. My dad's professor joked back in the '60s, "The nice thing about teaching econ is that every year I get to use the same test. I only have to change the correct answer."

It seems to vary a lot by econ department and changes over time. My high school friend that went to Caltech and *really* believed it until he saw my results. Meanwhile my dad went to Caltech back in the '60s and thinks it's complete BS, which is interesting.
