What did the upstart American Basketball Association get right in competing with the NBA? They realized everyone wants to see the stars and went after the best. Since then, the increase in salaries for pro athletes makes starting a new league really hard.https://twitter.com/mgirdley/status/1272548376073076737 …

They went after every aspect -- even down to the referees: "The ABA also went after four of the best referees in the NBA: Earl Strom, John Vanak, Norm Drucker and Joe Gushue, getting them to "jump" leagues by offering them far more in money and benefits" Crazy.

Do you think that Twitter or IG could be defeated by putting Trump, Kim Kardashian, Dan Bilzerian, and the other two names I'm not thinking of on a new platform? Why didn't it work for Tidal? It's an interesting case study.

I think a direct assault is impossible but finding a niche like TikTok totally work. That's what IG was anyway -- a smoother subset of FB w/o FB's social graph of parents in the way. Dan B is a twitter celeb?! oh man.

From what I've read, he's mostly just squandering a big inheritance. That turned me off.

They're a lot of conflicting stories about that. Don't want to go down this rabbit hole, but a lot of people say the same thing about Trump and that is almost certainly not true.
