Does anyone have an opinion about whether domain names will end up like 800 numbers, losing their value after being obseleted by what comes next?
As I understand it, ipv6 won’t change the demand for our currently registered domains right?

No IPv6 won't change demand for domains, but extensions differ wildly. .com is in a class of its own, then you have others like ccTLD/gTLDs/nTLDs, they all have vastly different dynamics.

The reason why old technologies are sticky in the TLD space is because they require a lot of money to implement, less than 10% of all domains are hosted on an IPv6 right now.
