Just found out that the founders of Meituan and ByteDance are both from Longyang, Fujian. There’s a stereotype in China that Fujianese people are really good at business — is there a comparable geographical generalization around entrepreneurship here in the US?

Yes and no. Ethnic groups are a stronger predictor of business skill in the United States. So whichever state has a lot of the ethnic group that is renowned for business skill is the state that gets the rep for being good at business. China is different. Outside of rural people

migrating to the cities to work in the coastal factories, people have been in the same place for generations, unlike in the USA, which traditionally also had much more mobility. It is in this way that you get stuff like 温州人是中国的犹太人.
