Just found out that the founders of Meituan and ByteDance are both from Longyang, Fujian. There’s a stereotype in China that Fujianese people are really good at business — is there a comparable geographical generalization around entrepreneurship here in the US?

Hmm yeah I guess for instance Jewish Americans are considered to be good at business...

Inarguable, imo. There are hubs for certain types of innovation i.e. silicon valley for tech, detroit for cars, nyc for fashion and finance, and los angeles for film. But there's nothing like "yeah, people born in Wyoming know business well" - its all ethnic based.

migrating to the cities to work in the coastal factories, people have been in the same place for generations, unlike in the USA, which traditionally also had much more mobility. It is in this way that you get stuff like 温州人是中国的犹太人.

Iron rice bowl of north also was not helpful, but that's a counterpoint to what I'm arguing.
