Allergies are full of snake-oil. I had wicked dust and pet allergies as a kid, and the solution was apparently to get stuck in the arm once a week with some junk. All it did was keep me solidly miserable; every time I started feeling better it was time for the next shot.
I don't know a ton about that, but I've long suspected it was bullshit. When I was a boy I went to the allergist. I'm allergic to cats. I had to get rid of the cat. Nope. I moved into an apartment that was full of cat dander at age 23. Miserable for 3 days.
After 3 days, my body just adapted to it and I was totally fine. I'd be willing to bet that if you give someone small amounts of the allergen in increasing doses you'd be able to get rid of it. Dunno if that's what the shots are.
That is the theory, but it never seemed to work at all. Eventually we just gave up. Now I have two dogs and a cat that shed prodigiously. I also used to have glasses, then I stopped wearing them and my eyes got better... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
