Something I got asked yesterday but didn’t have a good answer: Why does it seem the vast majority of people talk about starting/buying a business but never do it?

People get this idea from Warren Buffett and people in private equity. It seems so easy. Then you look at http://bizbuysell.com  and you're like "Shit, this is going to be hard." I think RE works the same way. People don't realize how much time is spent seeking good deals.

Nah. It has nothing to do with Buffett. It's the same reason most people forget about their new year resolution on January 2nd.

Well I can tell you that that is how it worked for me. I tried to roll-up some companies in summer of 2017 only to realize that they were all trash and the synergies were weak. Seemed really hard.

What was the market for the roll up? I've acquired two smaller businesses. I have been looking at a Rollup in Europe...interested to see where you hit blocks.

Amazon ecommerce businesses. Decided it could not work. Apparently many 100s of millions have been raised to do what I said couldn't be haha

Ha yeah I’ve seen a few pieces on people doing this. Just because investors wrote checks, doesn’t mean you were wrong!
