Serious question: Where will it end? Gone with the Wind was taken off of streaming services just recently. It seems like what is ans is not acceptable is a moving target so how will we know when we have cleared all the problematic artifacts of our past and present?https://twitter.com/wizards_magic/status/1270825048241135616 …

We are starting a review of every card we have printed. This first pass isn't meant to be an exhaustive catalogue of every problematic card in Magic’s history, and we will continue to take actions on similar cards in the future.

GONE WITH THE WIND was taken off of one streaming service, which has said it's going to put it back up with a discussion of context but leave the original film intact. Still available to stream everywhere else.pic.twitter.com/dsFek9zukS

Appreciate the additional info. That said, I think my point that self-censorship continues to expand still stands. It doesn't always make sense to extrapolate out a trend, but...it's been continuing unabated now for a while.

What you call "self-censorship" I would call "being more thoughtful" since imo you can only be censored by others. Magic: The Gathering reviewing their catalogue to check for racial stereotypes is reasonable self-reflection, not censorship.

Just wait. Soon your views will be non-consensus and then you'll feel differently. Self-reflection as well?https://comicbook.com/irl/news/lego-police-white-house-sets-statement-about-selling/ …

Yes, this is self-reflection as well. A business made a business decision on which items to promote. Businesses do this all the time. I see it as akin to a company taking certain ads off the air based on current events. Again, commonplace.

Dartmouth banning AD would be self reflection too right?

I find it difficult to argue against them banning a fraternity for branding people. I wouldn't call it self-reflection. I'd call it discipline, and justified discipline at that.

But it is self reflection. Afaik, there was no case with the local governmental jurisdiction. It was extrajudicial discipline. Okay so you support banning AD. I don’t know what went on but I disagree. Anyways, I’m arguing that this is a moving target and over the next couple of

It was a college not recognizing a fraternity, something that shouldn't involve the legal system at all, so I guess it's "extrajudicial" in the same way sending a kid to detention is

Hazing is against the law though, just like a rape allegation. IMHO, these things should be sorted out through the courts as opposed to extrajudicial college hearings. As I recall, the house is boarded up. I know less about this than you do, but definitely is self reflection.

No students were disciplined. And the college is a private institution that can determine somebody violated its community standards in the same way Twitter can ban someone for things that aren't technically illegal. (and can also ban for illegal things, w or w/o legal conviction)

Sure, but it’s self reflection and what I’m saying is that it’s going to get worse and worse and start moving against the people who currently support the actions taken. Twitter is different. Yes it’s a private company but I’d argue they are America’s public forum. That’s
