Political correctness is like a snowball rolling down the face of a snow covered mountain. If a single person tries to stop it, they get run over. The longer we as a society don’t stop it, the bigger and more destructive the snowball gets.

I think it’s something else; in a small town you talk, you don’t message. There’s no record of what is said.

I sort of long for old-fashioned religious schism. If people wanted to wrangle about the nature of the trinity or Arianism, it was destructive, but ultimately didn't matter. Empirical reality is being denied now.

It's one thing to hold contrarian views. It is entirely another when one uses rudeness or ignorance in their pronouncements. Pretty simple rule called the "Golden Rule". If more people followed it then we wouldn't need to censure so many.
