re 1: I take it back, apologies. re 2: This is very similar to what those campus kids we like to mock do: my experiences invalidate our studies. Life experiences cannot refute a studies unless the conclusions are so strong and categorical that a single counterpoint is enough.

  Paraphrasing Harry Crane, some studies are anecdotes and some anecdotes are studies. Molson’s affirmation is based more on a “study” based on his life experience rather than on a single observation of an event which occurred once in his life → has weight & (a bit of) Lindiness.
