It is a bit silly. All of our ancestors were oppressed at one point in time in human history/pre-history. I'm third-generation Irish/Italian and I know my great grandparents had to deal with plenty of discrimination.

I really dislike the hypocrisy I see. You can openly make fun of drunk fighting Irish or have the Lucky Charms leprechaun, but to do similar for other groups is high crime.
