A good criterion for whether or not you should write and publish an article is: “Am I uniquely qualified to write this piece and is this something that people need to hear.”

I would venture to reason, that most hobbyists write about the topics that interest them. Consequently, they probably have more personal experience, or above average knowledge, in those areas. Therefore, a hobbyist is perhaps less inclined to write on topics beyond their purview.

Word. It's not going to have an effect though (which some people seek) without my criteria though.
