Woke up thinking about this mental model: - Beginners are learning the rules - Intermediates think they know the rules (but don’t) - Experts know all the rules - Masters know when to break the rules I haven’t found a better one to define where one is in learning a subject.

I got in a lot of trouble reading master books in chess when I needed to be reading expert books. Similarly in business I read a lot of master and expert books when I should've been reading intermediate or beginner books. Experience and hard lessons did the trick though.
