Actually, no. US car manufacturers, other than Tesla, which sells a tiny tiny fraction of all cars, have been in retreat for 40 years due to Asian competition.

What I mean is that protectionism hasn’t been harmful in that industry. I think that people are pretty satisfied with the employment it provides. Unless you’re arguing that we would employ more people if we had less car manufacturing protectionism?

Protectionism is always good for the industry being protected. It’s the rest of the economy and normal people paying higher prices who get screwed.

Do you think it would be a shame if Tesla made its cars in Mexico and China instead of the United States? Or would that be better because they’d be cheaper?

Do you think it would be better if they were made in Texas instead of California? I don’t really care, I think governments shouldn’t determine it or impose taxes on their people in order to determine it

I’m mostly indifferent but I strongly prefer the cars be made in USA than China/mex

What if Mexicans are being paid to build them in California?
