That’s life. It’s rare that you don’t have tonn no pivot every 5-10 years in my experience (I have had to pivot many times in my short career).

I agree those most people seem to find it very difficult!

Molson and I are reading Andy Grove’s Only the Paranoid Survive and he makes this point. It’s hard to recognize inflection points and need to pivot. He calls it the “Inertia of Success”. CEOs often replaced not because they’re bad but struggle to shift away from what used to work

“The replacement of corporate heads is far more motivated by the need to bring in someone who is not invested in the past than to get somebody who is a better manager or a better leader in other ways.”

Just give us a bit more time is also death knell for failing new products. If it's going to work, you'll know out of the gate.

I’m guessing the inflection point for iPods was making them available for PCs, not just Macs

'03. If you zoomed in on the beginning of that graph I bet you'd see that it was also exponential. It just doesn't look that way when zoomed out.pic.twitter.com/pAtLzOcfWX

Hmm, so USB and iTunes for Windows is when the sales become visible on the chart, which makes sense. I actually remember adding a FireWire port to my PC to use my first iPod via MusicMatch jukebox. Must’ve been those ads for me 😜

You didn't know someone who had one first?

Hmm, could be. I can only remember one friend who had a Mac back then. He was really into music, so may have sold me on it.

And as with the rest of the world, the iPod then sold me on Apple. Never bought another PC after I had an iPod (although still had work PCs until this month)
