When I get a job application from a Colombian (the country) living in the US, I get excited. Most times they’re hard-working + fast-paced people who just go. I’m sure there are exceptions but the hit rate for me is very high.

For sure! The double-positive selection around (a) Colombian culture and (b) did the work to get to the US has had good outcomes for me.

I think that concept of “doing the work to get to the US” will fade away over time as the world shifts to remote. So many brilliant people love the country they’re from and would prefer to live there. I’d rather find someone that did the work to become great at what they do...

There will always be a premium for workers in the USA and even if we switch to full wfh the USA has a ton of advantages over most other countries.
