First I’ve heard of it but possibly because the implication that employees will default to saying whatever is good their employer.
In court, a corporation must hire a lawyer while a non-corporation person can appear pro-se. The employees and owners of a corporation cannot defend the corporation in court. I have no idea why this is and I think it's stupid.

Employees are called to testify all the time though and if that were an issue why are shareholders and the CEO also barred?

After merchants and other middle-class people kicked out the aristocrats, they didn't think deeply enough about changing the legal mechanisms that had evolved under thousands of years of despotic rule, IMHO. Courts & their rules are basically a feudal heritage.
