His spot in my heart would be softer if his companies limited themselves at incinerating investors' cash rather than also defrauding taxpayers (as in http://cnbc.com/2018/10/11/oregon-claws-back-13-million-from-tesla-over-tax-credits-report-says.html …), but I do indeed admire his boldness.

I don’t know all his misdeeds but I suspect if I did, I’d still say he’s a huge net win for society. He not only does a ton of good directly but inspires others to be bold.

i would also put Aubrey McClendon in this category. Aubrey was one of the wildcatters who made America natural gas powerhouse. As a business Chesapeake was bad investment but he risked it all for us to get benefits of low energy prices. Much respect!

Less good for society than what Musk and Masa do but I definitely respect the risk-taking, though I'd say his way of saying "I was wrong" was...a bit dramatic (driving into a concrete bridge abutment at high speed).

Masa low-integrity actions?? Like what

I can't think of any. That's what people seem to imply with WeWork etc. Musk has had some. Probably not fair for me to put them together. That said, in the eyes of most fintwit they are similar.
